Modesta
Boutique Japanese manufacturer of glass and titanium coatings applied only by authorised installers, and one of the oldest companies still trading in automotive coatings.

Modesta publishes “Durability: 3 - 10 years” as a single specification for a single product, and never explains what moves a result from one end of that range to the other.
Background
A boutique manufacturer in Takamatsu, Japan, tracing its origins to 2005, which makes it one of the oldest companies still operating in automotive coatings. The coatings are glass and titanium based rather than conventional silica, and are strictly installer-applied: BC-04 states plainly that it is only available for authorised installers.
An ownership note worth recording: modesta.co states that the website is operated on behalf of Modesta by Brands Alliance Ltd. of Bratislava, Slovakia. That is described as website operation rather than ownership, so we are not calling it a parent company. Note also that modestagt.com is Modesta Japan and modesta.eu is a parked domain for sale, not the brand.
A range that spans a factor of three
Three to ten years is not an estimate, it is an interval containing almost every plausible outcome. A coating that lasts three years and one that lasts ten are different products from a buyer’s point of view, and nothing on the page tells you which conditions land you where.
To be fair to them, coating durability genuinely does depend on climate, storage and washing, and a brand giving an honest range is arguably better than one asserting a single confident number. The problem is that a specification block is where a reader expects a measured value, and there is no method anywhere on the site to make the range meaningful.
The page also claims heat resistance to 900°C, and the “what cars to apply to” list — daily drivers, vehicles parked outside, utility and work vehicles, vehicles not maintained frequently — sits oddly against an about page framing the range as the most exclusive in the segment.
Documentation
They get partial credit and then lose it. The BC-04 page has a proper link labelled Safety Data Sheet, which shows intent. The link 404s.
No warranty page exists on the site at all — unusual for an installer-only coating at this price point, where the warranty is normally the product.
Where Modesta’s own figures disagree
These are not our measurements. Each row is a figure the brand publishes about itself, with the page it appeared on and the date we read it. We are not adjudicating which one is correct — the useful observation is that a specification with several published values was asserted rather than measured.
What Modesta publishes about itself
- Safety data sheet
- Not found
- Publishes any test data or method
- No
- Publishes an ingredient breakdown
- No
- Written warranty
- None published
How we checked: The BC-04 product page does carry a link labelled Safety Data Sheet, which is more than several brands here manage — but the link returns HTTP 404, so no sheet is actually obtainable. That is recorded as not found because the practical result for a reader is the same as absence. No warranty or guarantee page exists on the site, and no test standard, lab or data appears on any page we fetched. Assessed August 10, 2026.
Sources
Everything on this page about the company traces to one of these, with the date we read it. Brands edit their own claims, so an undated citation is worthless.
